Santa Clarita, CA— Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley installed its Board for 2019-20 at Sand Canyon Country Club during its annual dinner event on June 27th. The new officers include President Pam Ingram, Vice President Kim Kurowski, VP of Membership Karyn Crawford, Recording Secretary Deb Manahan, Corresponding Secretary Jennifer Lee, Treasurer Megan Carpentier, Treasurer Elect Dora Zavala, Public Awareness Alison Lindeman, Director Valerie Gausche, Director Aida Weinstein, Parliamentarian Tracey Carpentier, Past President Karen Schnurr and Cheri Fleming, Past President of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Past Governor for the Soroptimist Camino Real Region and club member presided as installing officer.

Outgoing President Karen Schnurr spoke about the accomplishments of the past year during her term which include awarding 12 local charities with a total of $32,000 in grants. Our Live Your Dream Education & Training Awards also presented $14,000 in grants to five amazing local women who are working extremely hard to achieve their dreams. This program assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. The club hosted conferences titled Dream It, Be It: Career Support for girls, a curriculum-based program attended by over 400 girls at five of our local high schools.

The theme incoming President Ingram chose for the year is “When You Sparkle You Inspire Everyone Around You.” She also announced that the next club fundraiser, All That Jazz Fashion Show, is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th at The Canyon Santa Clarita. Ingram commented that proceeds from these events are what enable our club to deliver on our mission of helping women and girls in our community as well as internationally.

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that improves the lives of women and girls. Soroptimist’s main program, Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards for Women, has disbursed about $30 million to almost 20,000 women since 1972. Its newest program, Dream It, Be It, targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Soroptimist also powers LiveYourDream.org, its online community that provides on and offline opportunities for volunteer action benefiting women and girls.
